Instead of functioning as a conventional defense headquarters, Egypt’s ‘The Octagon’ has been designed as an integrated military command city. According to Egypt’s State Information Service, the complex combines strategic command, crisis management, smart communications, and operational control within a single secure campus. Officials describe it as a “miniature administrative and defense hub” capable of coordinating military operations while supporting nationwide command-and-control functions through advanced digital infrastructure.
The headquarters is located in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, east of Cairo, a megaproject intended to relocate major government institutions from the congested capital. The military campus forms one of the flagship developments within the new city and is intended to centralize the country’s defense leadership. During the inauguration ceremony, President El-Sisi called the project a “significant leap” in Egypt’s command, control, and operations management capabilities, emphasizing its role in strengthening national security and military readiness.
Egypt’s ‘The Octagon’ derives its name from its distinctive octagonal master plan. The vast complex is organized into 13 integrated strategic and logistical zones, accommodating command centers, communications infrastructure, administrative buildings, and operational facilities. Official information indicates that the headquarters is designed to support continuous military coordination and to integrate advanced technologies for monitoring, communications, and emergency response across the country.
The inauguration has also drawn global attention because of the headquarters’ extraordinary scale. While comparisons with the Pentagon dominate headlines, Egyptian officials stress that the project represents more than a record-breaking footprint.
