London-based brand Apiar unveils a revolutionary watch design that is smarter, more elegant, and seamlessly integrates advanced technology.  With orders opening this week, the world’s first fully 3D-printed titanium watch illustrates pure design, aerospace-grade engineering, and an automated screen. 

Why the Apiar Gen 1.0 Is the Most Intriguing Watch of the Year

British brand Apiar took a different path with no shortcuts and released Gen 1.0 – the world’s first fully 3D-printed titanium watch. A futuristic watch that redefines the watchmaking revolution, integrating cutting-edge technology and manufacturing with the artistry of Swiss mechanics to create a timeless piece that honours function and form. Apiar explored the art of 3D printing in an era where tradition often dictates the rules and innovation takes the backseat. 

Beyond the Prototype:3D-printed luxury watch

Remaining the fundamental rebuilding of the watch, the Gen1.0’s mid-case and dial are crafted from a challenging, lightweight grade 5 and 23 titanium, crafting a new look. Titanium is hypoallergenic and corrosion-resistant, making it easy to wear every day. Built with laser powder bed fusion (L‑PBF) – a 3D printing process typically reserved for aerospace and medical industries. Generative design optimizes the strength-to-weight ratio and enhances the art of geometry and organic form, as a result of an algorithmic skeletonized dial and a sapphire case structure. 

Sustainability Meets Cutting-Edge Design

As Apiar’s co-founder, Sam White, puts it, the process of crafting watches layer by layer allows them to create components that are both high-performing tools and works of art; it neglects the traditional style of cutting away material from a solid block. By adding material where it’s needed, it reduces waste, and this approach of strategy defines the technical power and wins for sustainability.

Focusing on efficiency, only 14 grams of metal waste were generated in the production of the watch, respecting sustainability in the process and not as an afterthought. Co-founder Matt Oosthuizen highlights the importance of a complex, organic, and efficient approach to design possibilities for a watch that would be impossible to achieve with a traditional CNC machine cut.

Powered by Swiss precision, measuring 39mm, adapts a mechanical automatic movement that reserves 68 hours of power, smooth automatic winding, and reliable timekeeping under pressure with additive manufacturing. What sets it apart is the online 3D configurator, an interactive tool that allows you to alter case colours and finishes, with a preview of the watch in 360º. 

Apiar Gen 1.0 represents a new era watch, a wearable sculpture, a technological statement, and a glimpse into the future of manufacturing for design enthusiasts or anyone who admires innovation. With the fusion of luxury, material, and tech, the Apiar Gen 1.0’s pricing at £1,800 (excluding VAT) provides a titanium piece with Swiss movement and 3D-printed precision.
