Tehran’s Iran Mall, currently the world’s largest shopping center, spans a staggering 1.95 million square meters of total built area. A monumental infrastructure complex distinguished not by its retail capacity alone, but by a strategic, national-scale vision that integrates commerce, culture, and recreation. The design of the mall blends modern technology with Persian cultural traditions, enhancing Iran’s tourism and economy and creating thousands of jobs.

    Iran Mall

Opened in 2018, Iran Mall isn’t just a shopping center but a mini city within the complex, consisting of multifunctional spaces as a national cultural and commercial hub under one roof. Designed on a land area of over 317,000 square meters, spanning seven floors, the layout features both contemporary and traditional Iranian elements.

Its gross floor area is approximately 1.95 million square meters, making it larger in total built area but not necessarily in retail leasable space than Dubai Mall and other major centers worldwide. The complex also features parking facilities for over 20,000 vehicles.

    Architectural Philosophy

    Iran Mall

The architectural vision of the Iran Mall is not merely functional; it embodies historical Persian aesthetics with cutting-edge modern infrastructure. Designed by Emarat Khorshid and NORR, the core philosophy of the Iran Mall integrates authentic Iranian elements using historical methods in a modern structure. The interiors exemplify traditional craftsmanship, intricate details of domes and walls, and the specialized construction techniques of Karbandi, Yazdi-bandi, Kaseh-sazi, Eslimi, and Khata-i paintings. Here are the key multifunctional infrastructures.

The massive retail stores, approximately 700 shops in the first completed phase, range from high-end fashion boutiques to electronics, sportswear, and home decor. It houses a variety of international and local brands, catering to a wide variety of shoppers, providing luxury goods to affordable everyday products.

    2. Cultural and Entertainment Hub

Spanning 45000 square meters, the large-scale facility across five stories includes a cinema complex, an art gallery, VIP parking, exhibition loading docks, main warehouses, and areas for banking and emergency services. The indoor amphitheater accommodates thousands of visitors, hosting live performances, concerts, and cultural events.

The Jondishapour Library has become the most selected section of the Iran Mall, attracting thousands of visitors daily. Its wooden design with reading rooms and a cultural marketplace incorporates a “Shahr-e-ketab” store for books and stationery, a book cafe, and a photography studio.

    3. Sports and Leisure

It includes a gymnasium, climbing wall, and an indoor pool, perfect for fitness enthusiasts. The project encourages visitors to take a stroll and enjoy the scenery with carefully integrated  green spaces and walking tracks around the mall

    4. Luxury Hotels and Offices

    Iran Mall

A 5-star property, the Fairmont Iran Mall Hotel spans approximately 123,000 square meters over 18 floors, containing over 300 rooms. It provides high amenities, including multiple international and Iranian restaurants, ceremonial halls, meeting rooms, a central atrium, hydrotherapy centers, Turkish therapeutic baths, and full spa facilities. World Trade Center (WTC), a planned 54-story office tower situated in the west wing of the complex, houses national and international companies, providing significant commercial and administrative uses.

    5. Persian Garden

The striking elements are the incorporation of the Persian Gardens, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, symbolizing peace and harmony between man and nature. The Didar Garden’s aesthetic demonstrates regional influences, with walls and ceilings inspired by elements from the central deserts of Iran, reinterpreted as a modern reflection of the ancient Persian Garden style.

    A National Landmark Beyond Retail

Iran Mall, strategically located, provides a modern infrastructure that serves the public function and initiates a turning point for Iran’s tourism economy by attracting new investments. It creates employment opportunities while attracting attention from foreign tourists and social media influencers.

This cultural-commercial hybrid model, one of the world’s largest shopping malls by total area, achieves broader national objectives, promoting culture, stimulating tourism, and demonstrating advanced managerial capabilities.
