In Diriyah, the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a major new cultural destination is taking shape: The Arena in Diriyah. Developed by Diriyah Gate Company Limited and designed by HKS, Inc., the project reflects an architectural approach that intertwines 300 years of heritage with the future of large-scale entertainment and public gathering.

Covering 76,000 square meters with a seating capacity of 20,000, the venue is designed as a fully flexible, multipurpose arena capable of hosting a wide range of events, from intimate concerts to international sporting competitions. The structure is engineered to allow rapid transformation, integrating international best practices in venue design along with advanced technology, resilient infrastructure, and energy efficiency standards.

Visually, the design draws heavily from the geological and architectural context of Diriyah. A series of monumental stone-like volumes anchor the building, inspired by the region’s traditional Najdi forts. Between these structures, illuminated vertical features, referred to as “digital waterfalls”, introduce a dynamic, modern counterpoint. This architectural composition seeks to express a layered narrative: a physical presence grounded in history and a visual identity that embraces the future.

Internally, the venue’s design was informed by extensive user research, aiming to deliver an experience that resonates locally while appealing to international audiences. The project places emphasis on cultural inclusivity, welcoming visitors into a space that celebrates Saudi identity through music, sport, and community-centered programming.

The Arena in Diriyah is a cornerstone element of our mission to blend tradition with innovation. It exemplifies Diriyah’s unique lifestyle offering that harmonizes community, culture, and natural connection, setting a new standard for world-class destinations rooted in Saudi heritage.

More than an entertainment venue, The Arena in Diriyah is positioned as a key cultural catalyst within the wider Diriyah master plan, a national initiative to transform the historic city into a global hub for heritage, tourism, and contemporary culture. The arena is envisioned not only as a site for events, but also as a space for connection, pride, and the performance of shared identity.

Currently under construction, The Arena in Diriyah is expected to become one of the most significant new venues in the region.
