They say a house reveals so much about its occupant’s personality, and the real estate portfolio of Ben Affleck certainly does. His preferences reflect a desire for secluded living in a luxurious way. The common thread among his properties shows a blend of classic architectural styles with modern luxury. His taste also suggests an appreciation for timeless design, functionality, and aesthetics, favoring spaces catering to relaxation and entertainment.

So, in a way, he likes to gather the family and have friends over. That definitely offers us a deep insight into his personality beyond his acting/director life and controversial roles in movies like Batman vs. Superman and Gone Girl. This article will offer a quick architectural dive into his peculiar and expensive real estate properties.

Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles – Family Compound

    © Clint Brewer Photography

Location: Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. It is a serene residential neighborhood known for its peaceful environment and proximity to other celebrities.
Price: Purchased for $17.6 million in 2009, sold for $31.95 million in 2018.
    Year Built: 1930s
    Architect: Cliff May
Architectural Style: California ranch-style architecture, popularized by Cliff May. It’s also known as Mid-century architecture and blends inspiration from Art Deco and Modernism.

This estate features multiple buildings and approximately approximately 1,486.4 square meters of living space. The design emphasizes openness and connection to the outdoors, with sprawling layouts, high ceilings, and extensive use of glass. Key elements include open floor plans, large windows, and natural materials like wood and stone, all contributing to a seamless flow between the interior and the expansive gardens outside. Modern amenities such as a gym, office areas, a subterranean guesthouse, a large pool, and play areas further enhance the luxurious feel of the property.

Hampton Island, Georgia – Colonial Abode

    © Richard Leo Johnson

Location: Hampton Island, Georgia, a secluded 4,000-acre island about 35 miles south of Savannah.
Price: Purchased for $7.11 million in 2003
    Year Built: 2000
    Architect: N/A
Architectural Style: The main house on this estate is designed in the Greek Revival style, which was popular in the United States during the antebellum period. Greek Revival architecture is known for its grandiose, classical elements that include tall columns, symmetrical shapes, and elaborate entrances.

    The compound has three structures:

The Big House is a 6,360-square-foot Greek Revival–style main house, with a columned entrance that exudes grandeur and permanence. Inside, the design includes elevated foyers, classically inspired ceilings, and archways that enhance the home’s timeless aesthetic.

Oyster Cottage is a 10,000-square-foot camp-style structure featuring six bunk-style bedrooms and two main suites. It’s a more rustic design, constructed predominantly from wood to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The emphasis on openness is highlighted by balconies that extend the living space outdoors, creating a harmonious connection with the surrounding landscape.

The Summer House features brickwork interiors and is designed for casual gatherings. It includes a scenic riverfront dock which seamlessly integrates the estate with its natural setting.

The area has historical significance, having once hosted several 19th-century rice plantations, with an unmarked burial site for enslaved people reportedly located on the grounds. Affleck listed the estate for sale in 2018 but removed it in 2020, and he presumably still owns the property today.

Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles – Traditional English Dwelling

Location: Pacific Palisades, next to the prestigious Riviera Country Club.
Price: Purchased for $19.25 million in 2018 and sold for $28.5 million in 2022.
    Year Built: 2017/2018
    Architect: N/A

Architectural Style: Traditional English colonial style, characterized by its symmetrical façade, gabled roofs, and use of classical proportions and decorative elements. English colonial homes often have a stately, timeless appearance, reflecting the influence of Georgian and Victorian architecture.

This property features a white-walled, gabled roof structure with warm wooden flooring throughout. Unique architectural elements include retractable glass walls that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces and a grand staircase. Large windows flood the interiors with natural light, and high, princely ceilings enhance the sense of grandeur.

Spanning approximately 1,207.74 square meters, the home includes 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, a theater room, a wine cellar, a fitness center, and a full bar. The outdoor areas are equally luxurious, offering a pool with a waterslide, a pool house, and a covered terrace. The combination of wood and modern amenities creates a warm, sophisticated ambiance that exudes Hollywood luxury.

    Super-Luxe Mega-Mansion

Location: Wallingford Estates, an exclusive gated community in the Beverly Hills Post Office area of Los Angeles.
Price: Purchased for $61 million in 2023.
    Year Built: 2000
    Architect: N/A

Architectural Style: Contemporary luxury architecture, a style that emphasizes scale, opulence, and state-of-the-art amenities. The style often incorporates a mix of modernist design principles with traditional elements to create an ultra-luxurious living environment.

This 38,000-square-foot estate, set on five acres, features a main house with 12 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, and 15 fireplaces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design includes expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces, with large rooms ideal for entertainment and relaxation. High-end amenities include a cinema, wine room, whiskey lounge, hair and nail salon, sauna, and massage room.

A standout feature is the separate approximately 464.52 square meters sports complex that is equipped with a pickleball court, boxing ring, and lounge. Safe to say it perfectly reflects the modern trend of integrating wellness facilities into luxury homes. The outdoor area offers a zero-edge pool, guest house, caretaker’s house, and parking for 80 cars, making the estate perfect for privacy and hosting large gatherings.

Rustic Ranch Home, Pacific Palisades – Cliff May House

    © Corcoran Group

    Location: Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.
Price: Purchased for $20.5 million in July 2024.
    Year Built: 1941
Architect: Cliff May (Original Designer) – Steve Ganetti (Recent Updates)
    Architectural Style: California Ranch style

This 6,200-square-foot ranch-style home is another quintessential example of Cliff May’s California ranch architecture, featuring a U-shaped layout that creates a central courtyard and pool area as the focal point. French doors throughout the home enhance the connection between indoor spaces and the central pool.

The rustic interior includes vaulted wood-beam ceilings, weathered wood plank floors, and multiple fireplaces, which create a warm, cozy atmosphere. The property also includes a covered patio with a fireplace, a two-story guesthouse, and an equestrian facility, making it versatile for both leisure and practical use. Recently updated by architect Steve Ganetti, the home preserves the original design’s integrity while adding modern amenities and contemporary touches.
