Freedom Vessels: A dedication to the woman, life, and freedom by Rive Roshan

Rive Roshan dedicates an artwork titled “Freedom Vessels” to the women’s rights movement, reflecting the voices of Iranian women, in light of the ongoing “Woman, Life, Freedom” rallies in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini. During Milan Design Week 2023, the work was displayed at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery.

Rive Roshan is the artistic collaboration of Ruben de la Rive Box and Golnar Roshan. The company creates to naturally connect with people through exploring visual beauty as a path to emotional well-being. Their work is characterized by a fusion of contemporary and traditional methods, creating beautiful and inspiring pieces that resonate with viewers.

The studio creates immersive spatial experiences, materials, and things that improve lives while creating memories that we treasure through innovative processes. Rive Roshan’s work has been exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France, the Old Selfridges Hotel in London, the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, the Shanghai Museum of Glass, and the Museum JAN in Shanghai, with the most recent acquisition by the National Gallery Victoria.

Golnar Roshan, who together with Ruben de la Rive Box runs the company, was driven to respond creatively to this serious situation by drawing on her Iranian heritage. The “Freedom Vessels” are a frozen dance of sculptural items that appear to whirl as you walk around them, a progression from their 3D printed Sand in Motion collection. This display of large-scale vessels sparks a conversation between the object and the viewer. An echo of voices borne in vessels, speaking for freedom and recalling the brave women’s pleas.

The artists wanted to make this collection as a tribute to these strong and courageous voices, many of whom were either punished or executed, because women in Iran are now fighting against the dictatorship for their freedom to talk, sing, dance, dress as they want, and just to be free.

Emphasizing the strength of female voices and acts of liberation, this collection serves as a reminder to celebrate and honor the bravery of these women who are continuing to fight for their freedom in the face of an oppressive regime.
