As the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off across North America, host cities are unveiling immersive fan destinations for supporters from around the globe. In Kansas City, architecture studio Populous has created the official FIFA Fan Festival, transforming the National WWI Museum and Memorial’s south lawn into a vibrant gathering space that captures the city’s distinctive heart, energy, and community spirit.
A Festival That Celebrates the Kansas City Vibe
Located just outside Downtown Kansas City, the temporary fan zone will operate for 18 days during the tournament, providing a welcoming destination for football enthusiasts. Designed to reflect the inclusive and community-driven Kansas City vibe, the festival offers a place where locals and international visitors can come together to watch matches, celebrate the sport, and share in the excitement of the World Cup.
Populous Designs an Iconic Heart Gateway
At the centre of the experience stands a striking 65-foot-tall heart-shaped gateway designed by Populous. Inspired by Kansas City’s beloved heart symbol, the installation serves as a landmark and a statement of the city’s welcoming character. According to the design team, the heart represents a community that embraces visitors with openness, connection, and pride.
Football, Entertainment, and Fan Experiences
Beyond the heart gateway, visitors will find a large LED screen and event stage that will broadcast World Cup matches throughout festival hours. The venue will also host live performances, including appearances by The Chainsmokers, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Temporary pavilion designs featuring lounge areas and memorabilia displays further enhance the fan experience, creating a dynamic destination where sport, culture, and the spirit of Kansas City come together. Admission is free, although entry may be limited during peak attendance periods.
