Introduction to Gravity Sketch VR To 3D-Printing :

“The Moment As A Lost Art”

What happens in the moment stays in the moment. This might sound funny, but it’s true. You can’t experience what it is like to create in the now when you are prepared. So read the following, and accept that it might turn out differently. This workshop is all about creativity and spontaneous design. The goal is to have some intense hours trying to change a perspective on how we allow ourselves to be ”creative” while the world is based upon time, scheduling, insight information, forecasts, and data analysis.

There is a slight possibility that this course is a curse and that you might end up with a different approach to being a designer, architect, or human being. The sum of this course will be materialized virtually in a VR drawing session, where participants will see and experience the beautiful process of hand-drawn sculpting. A whole new dimension on how you can enrich the world with a pro-human design.

The scope of the Gravity Sketch: VR To 3D-Printing workshop:

The workshop’s main goal will not be a how-to or a manual setup. The intention is to create experiences and thoughts free from software or hardware limitations. This means that the learnings shouldn’t be compatible with only a narrow selection of output options. The structure of this course has a circular setup: Starting with reality and how it evolves into virtual and augmented reality, then transforming our creative thoughts into materialistic objects.

    Methodology:

The course will be an example-based theory, primarily based on Salventius’s personal experience as an artist. To get more into the meat of ‘creating at the moment,’ a few short practical assignments will help you understand the subject. For participants with Quest and Gravity Sketch software, An integrated session will be given with an introduction to the Ins and Outs of how he creates his hand-drawn sculptures.

Objectives of the Gravity Sketch: VR To 3D-Printing:

When creating at the moment, there is no one-on-one manual on getting yourself in the now and benefiting from this way of creating. The hearings will come after this course. As the saying goes, “Practice what you preach.” The course will have an outline and a structure, but it will also be most of the time becoming while happening. This will make it a unique course and a moment that will be shared with the students. The goal is to balance the overwhelming digital, virtual, and artificial realm in which we operate as humans. He likes to call it Humancipation and how this helps design our future. Salventius described the sentiment during this course as: “The sun will be shining because I love AI, VR, AR, and Social Media, but I just like people and individuals a little more.”

Instructors of Gravity Sketch: VR To 3D-Printing:

    Niels Kiené (a.k.a. Salventius)

For years, Niels Kiené (a.k.a. Salventius) worked as a creative strategist while participating in numerous art projects he had initiated. He allowed himself to experiment more with the fine arts instead of the applied. 2010, he started creating portraits in the moment, using one single continuous line. This resulted in a large following on Social Media, excellent collaborations, and meeting interesting people.

In his pursuit of getting himself more in the moment, he used materials that made achieving this possible. This resulted in using not-so-ordinary materials and techniques such as Light (light painting), Rainwater (Sand drawings), and VR (Hand Drawn Sculptures). To experiment freely with these materials and techniques, he balanced knowing with naivety so that he was not held back when using them on one of his adventures.

    Edward Wakefield

Edward Wakefield is an entrepreneur and fine art producer operating in the space between art and manufacturing. As a seasoned traveler, his worldwide network of artists and artisans enables him to initiate, facilitate, and manage creative projects spanning various media.

From 2018, he worked with prominent streetwear brand Palace Skateboards in London across different segments, including production, distribution, and the legalities of counterfeit products. In 2020, whilst studying International Economics and Trade at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China, he founded Crayon Artel – envisioned as a production partner for contemporary artists to access conventionally hard-to-reach media, starting with hand-knotted Persian carpets in Iran and hand-carved Shona stone sculptures in Zimbabwe.

In addition to his role at Crayon Artel, he is a senior editor at VoxelMatters, an online media company covering news and building reports for the additive manufacturing (3D printing) industry. His most recently co-founded project, FORM FARM, a product development and 3D printing service provider, draws on his industry experience and aims to make the technology and education around it accessible to the South African market.
