Paris is preparing for a significant moment in its cultural calendar as Art Paris 2026 returns to the Grand Palais. The event marks an important moment for the city’s art scene and also reinforces the fair’s identity as a key platform for contemporary art. Scheduled from 9 to 12 April 2026, the 28th edition of Art Paris will unfold inside the nave and balconies of the recently restored Grand Palais.

    Global Reach and Participation

Art Paris 2026 will bring together around 165 galleries from roughly 20 countries, maintaining a balance between French representation and international participation. The fair continues to define itself as regional and cosmopolitan, reflecting Paris’s broader artistic resurgence while staying accessible compared to larger global fairs.

Two Curated Themes at the Core of the Fair

    1. Language and Signs in French Contemporary Art

Curated by Loïc Le Gall, the “Babel – Art and Language in France” theme explores how artists engage with words, symbols, and visual language. The exhibition brings together works by 21 artists from French galleries, focusing on how meaning is built through text, signs, and visual codes. The section highlights how contemporary artists blur the line between abstraction and representation. It invites viewers to reconsider how meaning is constructed, both individually and collectively, through written and visual forms.

    1. Repair as a Contemporary Lens on International Art

Curated by Alexia Fabre, this international-focused section uses the idea of “repair” as a guiding concept. The works selected explore repair in a physical sense, as well as care, restoration, memory, and rebuilding across time and cultures.

Featuring around twenty artists, the section connects different perspectives on how societies preserve objects, histories, and relationships. It positions repair as an ongoing process that links past, present, and future.

Promises Section: Spotlight on Emerging Galleries

A key part of Art Paris 2026 is the Promesse section, dedicated to new and emerging galleries that are less than ten years old. Curated by Marc Donnadieu, this program is located on the south balconies of the Grand Palais nave.

It includes 27 galleries, offering a snapshot of younger artistic practices and current international directions. This section is designed to highlight experimentation and new talent within the global art scene.

    Exhibition Structure Across the Fair

Beyond the main themes, the fair is organized around several complementary formats:

    • Around 24 solo exhibitions, showcasing individual artists across both general and emerging sections
    • A dedicated design space called French Design Art Édition, curated by Jean-Paul Bath and Sandy Saad, presents limited-edition contemporary design works
    • An exhibition from the Fonds d’art contemporain – Paris Collections, engaging with contemporary issues, including reflections on historical and colonial legacies through the theme of repair

    • BNP Paribas Private Banking Prize – A Look at the French Scene
    • Awarded to a living artist featured in the French-focused “Babel” exhibition on language and art.
    • Her Art Prize
    • Dedicated to female artists, this award recognizes careers and practices that challenge and expand contemporary artistic boundaries.

    • Supported by the Ministry of Culture, it honors 100 outstanding interior and design projects that promote French creativity internationally.

The Grand Palais as an Active Cultural Ecosystem

Art Paris 2026 forms part of a vibrant program of exhibitions and events that activate the Grand Palais throughout the year.

    Recent and concurrent highlights include:

    • A major retrospective on Henri Matisse (1941–1954), exploring his late works and cut-out technique
    • Nan Goldin: This Will Not End Well, an immersive exhibition blending photography and cinema
    • Earlier showcases, such as Dessins sans limite, present works from the Centre Pompidou’s graphic collection

The venue also continues to host large-scale fairs like Art Capital 2026 and upcoming international events, reinforcing its role as a continuous platform for historical and contemporary practices.

When Architecture Shapes the Narrative of Art

What distinguishes this edition is how the Grand Palais itself becomes part of the narrative.

The restored building provides context. Its scale allows for ambitious installations, while its history invites reflection on continuity, memory, and transformation. Within this setting, themes such as artistic identity, cultural exchange, and evolving practices gain additional resonance.

Art Paris 2026 arrives at a moment when Paris is reasserting itself as a global art capital. The fair’s return to the Grand Palais strengthens that position by aligning the following:

    • Institutional heritage (the Grand Palais)
    • Contemporary production (international galleries and artists)
    • Public engagement (talks, exhibitions, accessible programming)

The result is an event that operates across multiple levels: commercial, curatorial, and architectural.

“Art Paris 2026 Returns to the Grand Palais” marks the consolidation of a renewed cultural ecosystem in Paris, where a historic monument and a contemporary art fair reinforce each other’s relevance. By combining curated exhibitions, international participation, and the symbolic weight of its venue, the fair positions itself as a key moment in the 2026 art calendar, one that reflects the city’s artistic momentum and the evolving role of major cultural institutions.
