Burning Man festival has revealed a spiralling wooden pavilion as the main temple to be built and then sent up in flames in the Nevada desert this year. The design, by Arthur Mamou-Mani of London-based Mamou-Mani Architects, was selected by the Burning Man Arts organisation, which oversees the creative programme for the annual nine-day event. Named Galaxia, the temple will be formed of 20 timber trusses that spiral up and form a tower as they converge. A group of 11 undergrad students from Tecnologico De Monterrey Campus Monterrey have constructed a Parametric Pavilion as a final exercise for the semester. The project started with an algorithm created by one of the students were a pyramidal shaped component was placed across a vaulted surface, creating a strong differentiation by changing its height. Another algorithm was elaborated to unfold all the 195 components to a flat surface to be laser cut and then folded to generate the pyramidal shape from a single piece of 3 millimeter Coroplast. The team carefully assembled all the components using an industrial staple gun and plastic…

Text description provided by the architects. Iranian architecture studio Hajizadeh & Associates have proposed a cultural complex for the Chabahar, area of Iran, which is designed to become part of the surrounding landscape. The Chabahar Free Zone Complex is located in the southern Iranian state called Sistan va Baluchestan, home to the country’s only port to the Indian ocean, with ambitions to be a commercial and touristic hub. Melike Alt?n???k and Gül Ertekin have shared with us their proposal for the Istanbul Gulsuyu Cemevi and Cultural Center Competition. Hosted by Maltepe Municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, the competition asked participants to design a religious and cultural complex for the Alevi population (a religious minority group practicing Islam) that can serve modern society’s needs and honor past culture.
