ETH Zurich and Zaha Hadid Architects unveiled KnitCandela, a 3d knitted concrete pavilion transportable via suitcase. ETH Zurich, working in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects Computation and Design Group (ZHCODE) and Architecture Extrapolated (R-Ex) have designed KnitCandela, a thin, sinuous concrete shell built on ultralightweight knitted formwork that was carried to Mexico from Switzerland in a suitcase. The “KnitCandela” prototype is a five-tone concrete structure that represents the first application of this technology at an architectural scale. The Sweden-based architect Jesper Wallgren has created algorithms by Finch3d to design adaptive building plans. Wallgren has a long history of teaching parametric design both in academia and industry. Finch is a tool for Architects to leverage their designs in the early phases of a project. Right now it’s under development and will be launched as a plug-in to Rhino/Grasshopper during 2020. British architect, David Adjaye of Adjaye Associates has revealed visuals of The Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. The Abrahamic Family House commissioned by The Higher Committee for Human Fraternity is an interfaith complex in Abu Dhabi that will contain a church, mosque, and synagogue, which sit upon a secular visitor pavilion. The landmark project hopes to embody the relationship between the three Abrahamic faiths whilst providing a platform for dialogue, understanding, and coexistence between their religions. Real Virtuality is an architectural installation at the Royal Academy of Arts, designed by Gilles Retsin Architecture to combine timber construction with Augmented Reality and Automation. Exploring how Augmented Reality could be used for fabrication, rather than merely visualisation, Gilles Retsin Architecture used Microsoft’s Hololens to assemble modular timber building blocks of the Real Virtuality project in real-time.
