Dubai has announced the launch of the region’s first dedicated Museum of Digital Art (MODA), adding a new cultural institution to the city’s growing architecture and arts landscape. The project will be developed within the expansion of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and is positioned as a long-term cultural anchor focused on digital creativity, immersive technologies, and interdisciplinary research.
The museum was unveiled by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, as part of a broader strategy linking culture with future technologies. The institution is planned as an environment where digital media, interactive systems, and cultural programming will operate together.
Museum of Digital Art Built for a Digital-First Experience
The project has been designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the studio behind several large-scale global projects. The design intends to support changing forms of digital practice, requiring adaptable exhibition environments instead of fixed gallery layouts.
MODA will include spaces designed for permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside immersive installations, educational zones, and interactive platforms. The architectural approach reflects the changing nature of digital art, where content can shift through projections, artificial intelligence systems, sound environments, and real-time media technologies.
Five Floors Dedicated to Digital Culture
According to announced plans, the museum will spread across five floors and create spaces for artists, researchers, and emerging talent from regional and international digital art sectors. The institution is expected to support experimentation and collaboration while expanding access to new media practices.
DIFC will oversee the project’s development while Dubai Culture will lead its cultural direction and operations. The museum also forms part of DIFC’s new arts strategy, which aims to consolidate public programs and cultural initiatives into a year-round ecosystem.
The announcement signals another step in Dubai’s investment in culture-led development and technology-driven public spaces. Positioned within the DIFC Zabeel District expansion, MODA introduces a new architectural typology for the region, a museum built around digital interaction.
As digital and immersive formats continue to reshape the way audiences experience art, the Museum of Digital Art places architecture at the centre of that transition, turning the museum itself into a platform for evolving forms of cultural production.
