    Laceless Poseidon

Inspired by the ocean and the variety of creatures which live in it, the Laceless Poseidon expresses the language of the marine in the form of a lifestyle sneaker.

This shoe is designed to be made from direct injected polyurethane with recycled polyurethane particles, and a TPU knitted upper. It also features a translucent TPU outsole. The PU cage-like midsole wraps around the upper and makes use of variable mixing of two colours which are similar to create a fake smoothness to the gradient. The bouncier PU is lower, while the more flexible PU is higher up. The shoe comes in 4 colourways, described as follows:

Symbolising the vastness of the ocean, Odyssey’s blue and turquoise reflects the impact the oceans have had on the journey of humanity, as well as the majority of the creatures which live and have lived in the ocean. Odyssey is a story about the great journeys that humankind has set out upon and under the waves. Odyssey is a story of the origins of life, and the ever continued intertwined nature of humanity’s with the seas.

Kraken‘s orange and reds draw inspiration from the great monsters of the deep, from Giant and Humboldt squids, the Pacific Giant Octopus to the ancient Anomalocaris. Its hues represent the ferocity of the creatures which dwell beneath the waves, speaking of the wrath with which these primordial creatures hunt their prey.

Polyp’s pink and white hues represent the reefs, the great cities of the sea, superorganisms which are visible from space. It also indicates the fragility of these environments, which current and future environmental efforts are heavily focused on.

In the deepest depths of the ocean where no light reaches, lurk undiscovered creatures. Their bodies are completely devoid of colour, giving them a ghostly appearance. Due to a phenomenon known as deep sea gigantism, many of them are enormous compared to their loftier counterparts. The monochromatic grey and black of Abyss represents all of the undiscovered wonders of the depths, from lost civilisations to terrifying creatures, to wondrous animals which have no relatives in shallower waters, and the coral they swim among.

The shoe was designed with the help of an algorithm known as reaction diffusion, which has been used in designs by Nervous System, New Balance and most recently Salehe Bembury for Crocs. It is modelled after the natural process by which zebra stripes emerge, brain coral grows, and the colourful patterns on tropical fish emerge.

(it's probably redundant for me to mention this, but please put the video, which loops, first.)
